The ICETLAB is working with BiVACOR Inc., in close cooperation with the Texas Heart Institute and many other international research centres, to develop their range of blood pumps.

The BiVACOR total artificial heart uses a single spinning disc within a housing which has blades on each side to provide systemic and pulmonary circulatory support. The higher pressure in the systemic circulation is generated with a larger set of blades, while the lower pulmonary pressure is generated with a smaller set of blades. The single rotating disc is suspended by a magnetic levitation system that maintains the desired disc position.
